AT&T’s new Samsung a657 will probably not be of interest to you.
And that’s because the a657 is a rugged and tough handset “built to withstand the harshest conditions and most demanding users.”
Like AT&T’s previously released rugged phone from Samsung (Rugby a837), the a657 has Push to Talk (PTT) capabilities.
Unlike the Rugby, though, the new phone is a candybar:
Its specs and features include:

* Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
* Dual band UMTS/HSDPA connectivity (850/1900 MHz)
* 176 x 220 pixels display with 262K colors
* AT&T Navigator (with a dedicated GPS key)
* Built-in flashlight
* Email, Instant Messaging
* Bluetooth 2.0
* USB 2.0
* 100 MB of internal memory
* microSDHC card support, up to 16GB
* Talk time: up to 3 hours
* Standby time: up to 10.5 days
* 4.53 x 2.05 x 0.77 inches
* 4.34 ounces
For the moment, Samsung a657 doesn’t seem to be available for purchase, but you can see it on AT&T’s Business webpage.

When pre-announcing a new phone – like LG KP500, the Korean maker has got into the habit to release only very few details about the device to wet our appetite.
Touting the key marketing gimmicks like full touchscreen & cheap in this case, LG remains mum about almost everything else. The KP500 specs and prices will have to wait for the official announcement in a few weeks.
Or not.
Ukrainian site Onliner.ua managed to finagle most of the details about LG KP500, including specs and price from company reps there.
LG KP500 specs will include:
* Quadband GSM (850/900/1800/1900), GPRS/Edge connectivity
* 3″ 240×400px 262K color TFT display/touchscreen
* 3 mpx (2048×1536 px) camera with 12 fps video recording
* Virtual on-screen QWERTY keyboard
* FM Radio
* Built-in motion sensor
* 46 MB of user memory
* microSD memory card slot
* Bluetooth A2DP, USB
* 900 mAh Li-Ion battery with 210 min talk and 330 hrs stand-by time
* Dimensions: 106.5×55.4×11.9mm
* Weight: 89
LG KP500 price in Ukraine will be $350 (~250 EUR). And, without subsidies, it should be similar in the rest of the world.
So, there you have it. LG KP500 is rather cheap handset among it’s full touchscreen peers. But it is also very basic – no 3G, no Wi-Fi, no GPS, no flash and autofocus for a camera and no fancy DivX playback on that big display.
But, I guess, a good option for a budget conscious full touchscreen phone fan.

- microSDHC memory card slot (up to 8 GB)
- Bluetooth 2.0 and USB
- 960 mAh battery
- Dimensions: 115 x 48 x 16 mm

March 15, 2010 by admin Samsung has just officially announced the S5600, and along with it, the S5230. Both are touchscreen phones that feature Samsung’s proprietary TouchWIZ user interface, but the S5600 looks to be the more well-featured phone of the two despite the S5230 offering a bit more touchscreen real-estate. The S5600 comes with a 2.8-inch 240×320 QVGA display, 3-megapixel camera with 15fps video recording, Bluetooth 2.1, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, UMTS 900/2100, HSDPA 7.2Mbps connectivity, and an internal memory of 80MB expandable via microSD card of up to 8GB in capacity. It’s also pretty small and compact as it only measure in at 102.6 x 55 x 12.9mm in size. Meanwhile, the S5230 features a 3-inch 240×400 WQVGA display, 3-megapixel camera, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, Bluetooth 2.1, and 50MB internal memory with support for microSD cards of up to 8GB in size. Understandably, it’s slightly bigger measuring in at 104 x 53 x 11.9mm. No word yet on the pricing of both phones, but they are already confirmed to be released in Europe with the S5230 getting outed first in April and the S5600 following in May. We have yet to get confirmation if they will be made available outside Europe. Incoming search terms for the article:
