The Sony Ericsson W595 is a Walkman series 3.5G with a 3.2 megapixel digital camera, stereo Bluetooth and an FM radio, As you might guess from the 500 series model number, the W595 is a midrange phone which makes the appearance of HSDPA high-speed 3.5G data a welcome addition. On the other hand, this is possibly one of the most basic 3.2 megapixel cameras that we have seen for a long time – the Sony Ericsson W595 lacks autofocus or a flash, but it does support multishot photos and picture blogging. In line with the new W902, the W595′s media player supports shake control, Sony Ericsson’s “SenseMe” tempo and mood based playlists and track identification. There is also a “share jack” which allows two people to listen to music at the same time.

It’s not a bad looking device, and the 2.2″ QVGA display should be suitable for most users. Of course, the W595 supports Memory Stick Micro cards (up to 2GB) which will be essential to use it as a music player.
Underneath, this is a quad band GSM phone with UMTS 2100 and HSDPA high-speed data. There is also a W595a version for the Americas and a W595c version for China without UMTS/HSDPA support. The W595 weighs 104 grams and measures 100 x 47 x 14mm. Talktime on 3G is 4.5 hours, on GSM it is 9 hours. Standby time is 15 to 16 days.

Sony Ericsson say that the W595 will be available during Q4 2008 in Active Blue, Cosmopolitan White, Jungle Grey, Ruby Black and Lava Black colour combinations, depending on region.

ITT Easy Use Phone

ITT+Easy+Use+Phone ITT Easy Use Phone
the Phone, a device that has several features that are designed to appeal to those who struggle with today’s tiny and over-complicated mobile phones.The first thing to notice is that this is a big phone – much larger than a conventional handset (it’s almost the same size as the brick-like Nokia E90). This isn’t a bad thing, because it means that the Easy Use Phone comes with a set of really large buttons on the front. The keypad consists of a standard numeric layout, plus “call” and “hang up” keys and then four quickdial memory keys, designed either for frequent calling or emergency use. Below is a size comparison between the Easy Use Phone and the Nokia 6300, so you can get a feel for just how large the buttons are.
We haven’t seen the display, but we understand that it comes with white-on-black text and has been designed for clarity. Technically, it’s a “transflective negative LCD” with a backlight, so it should be usable in most lighting conditions.

There’s a 50 number phonebook, and a choice of nine polyphonic ringtones. There’s no mention of text capabilities, and since the Easy Use Phone has no letters on the keypad, we assume that SMS messaging is not possible.Accessibility isn’t all about big buttons and simple displays – the Easy Use Phone also comes with a very loud speakerphone, strong vibrate mechanism and it’s hearing aid compatible too. There’s also a headset included in the standard sales package. The Easy Use Phone is available in black or silver .Despite the Easy Use Phone’s considerable size and weight, the beefy 100mAh battery only gives about 6.5 days standby time and 2 hours 20 minutes talktime. For a phone of this type, we feel that the battery life should be much longer. Bear in mind that the Phone will be used by people who might not always remember to charge their phone, so twice the talktime and standby time would be very useful.

The Phone is available from selected retailers across Europe – in the UK it is available for around £138 SIM Free from Matamobile, in Germany Amazon.de stock it for €169.

Onyx Liscio

we love our gadget packed mobiles. But there tends to be one big problem – these feature packed handsets are all, well, rather big when it comes to size. Sometimes you don’t want to carry a big phone, especially if you are carrying a tiny-but-oh-so-chic handbag, or perhaps you’re wearing an inadvisably tight pair of trousers.. for whatever reason it is sometimes nice to have a second phone that is a lot more compact.So, step forward then the Onyx Liscio. An ultra compact and very lightweight handset designed specifically as a second phone.

Onyx Liscio vs Nokia 6300 The oddly named Liscio weighs just 60 grams and measures on 90 x 35 x 18mm. Compare that with 91 grams and 106 x 44 x 12mm for the popular Nokia 6300, or the 128 gram Nokia N95 8GB and you can see how much smaller the Liscio is (see the image on the left for a size comparison with the Nokia 6300).
You might have guessed that the Onyx Liscio makes a few compromises to keep the size down, and you would be right. For starters, the screen is only a 1.1″ 96 x 96 pixel OLED display and there’s no digital camera on the back. As you would probably expect from an ultra lightweight phone, the Liscio does not support 3G, WiFi or GPS. There’s no mention of data support or a web browser, although the small screen isn’t really suited for web access.

But the compromises seem to be few and far between. The Liscio has an MP3 player, FM radio, Bluetooth, 128MB of internal memory plus a microSD slot (currently with a 1GB card in the standard sales package), USB 2.0 connectivity and easy-to-use media keys. The Liscio comes with a wired stereo headset in the box, and it also supports stereo Bluetooth.

Onyx Liscio in Box The Liscio’s battery life is better than you might think for such a small phone, and this will certainly be partly due to the energy efficient OLED display. The 730 mAH battery can provide up to 3 hours talktime, 8 days standby time and 11 hours of music playback.This is a very good looking handset – the smooth and glossy exterior plus the large media keys give the impression that the Liscio is a dedicated multimedia player rather than a phone. It’s certainly a nice device to show off to friends, but perhaps surprisingly there’s no lanyard attachment for hanging the Liscio around your neck.

The Onyx Liscio is designed to be a second phone, and it is sold only as a SIM-free device for about £130 in the UK from Blue Telephony. The same handset can also be found as the Mivvy Music for about €135 from Mivvy to customers in Germany, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

This is an unusual and attractive handset, and it offers pretty good value for money too. It isn’t the first time that we have seen a mobile phone marketed in this way, the Siemens Xelibri range from a few years ago tried to do the same thing.. but Siemens were probably a little ahead of their time with the concept. Perhaps the Onyx Liscio will have more success?

T-Mobile Samsung Memoir detailed specifications and press pic

samsung memoir t mobile t929 T Mobile Samsung Memoir detailed specifications and press pic
Samsung leak week continues.

It seems that information about no less than 10 new unannounced Samsung handsets has leaked out to the web this week.

Well, today we’ve got a tip of our own with additional info on the upcoming and already pretty well known T-Mobile Samsung Memoir.

The tipster sent us a press/promotion pic and what he claims is a full list of T-Mobile Memoir specs & features. The spec list looks legit, but it is totally unconfirmed and contains some contradictory data so take it with a grain of salt.

Here we go:

samsung-memoir-t-mobile-t929

And here’s T-Mobile Samsung Memoir T929 spec and feature list:
* Advanced Responsive Touch Screen
* Quick Access Customizable Widgets
* Real Web Browsing (web2goSM)
* Supports POP3 Emails
* Full QWERTY Touchpad
* 8.0 Megapixel Digital Camera
* Multiple Messaging Options (Text Messaging, Picture Messaging, Video Messaging, Email, IM)
* Bluetooth® Wireless Technology
* Organizer: Alarm, Calculator, Calendar, Converter, Memo, Task List, Timer, Stop Watch, RSS Reader
* Advanced Speech Recognition
* Voice Memo
* 72-Note Polyphonic Ringtones
* Volume Up/Down Keys
* Vibrate Mode
* Phonebook holds up to 1,000 entries
* TTY (M3) capable
* Graphic Format Support (BMP, PNG, BCI, JPEG,GIF, PMD)
* Audio Format Support (MP3, AAC/AAC+, MPEG4, WAV, MIDI)
* Video Format Support (MPEG4, H.263, H.264, WMV)
* MegaTones and
* myFaves® Capable
* EDGE High-speed Data
* GPRS
* USB Interface
* Games
* Music Player (MP3)
* Wallpaper

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

* GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900; UMTS Band IV, Band I
* Dimensions: 4.17” x 2.11” x 0.55 ” (standard battery)
* Weight: 4.4 ounces (standard battery)
* Display: 240 x 400 Pixels, 262K TFT (Touch-Sensitive 1.61” x 2.64” LCD Display)
* Operating System: Proprietary
* Talk Time: Up to 5.5 hours (standard battery)
* Standby Time: Up to 300 hours (standard battery)
* Hearing Aid Compatibility = M3

As I said above, T-Mobile Samsung Memoir spec list looks pretty complete and legit. The problem is that while tech specs say that the phone supports 3G/UMTS Bands IV and I, the data feature list describes only GPRS/EDGE data capabilities. Such a potentially prominent feature as HSDPA data connectivity is not mentioned at all. As there is no mention of GPS too.

GPS absence can be explained easily enough – Samsung Pixon, which looks like a European version of this phone also did not advertise it’s GPS prowess.

The lack of HSDPA – well, that’s either the omission in this spec sheet, or Samsung Memoir on T-Mobile will come with high speed data function turned off. Given the newness of T-Mobile’s 3G network and that none of the leaked info emphasizes high speed data features on such a high end phone, that’s not implausible too.

Anyway, we should know all the details in a few weeks. Stay tuned.
