Nokia intros new services and 7 new phones under €100 – 7100 Supernova and 5…

Nokia, the “king of emerging markets”, has just announced the upcoming release of no less than 7 (seven) new cheap phones.

Most of these handsets come with Mail on Ovi and Nokia Life Tools, two new services especially created for mobile users in emerging markets. 

Mail on Ovi lets you create an email account directly on a cell phone, hence there’s no need for you to own a personal computer to start emailing. By the end of 2008, the service will be available for all of Nokia’s Series 40 phones.   

Nokia Life Tools, a suit of agriculture information and education services, is created for rural and small town communities. The services leverage on an icon-based user interface and on SMS, providing “timely and relevant information” to farmers and students. Nokia Life Tools will first be launched in India, starting 2009, with other Asian and African markets to follow later. 

Now let’s present the new phones.

Nokia 5130 XpressMusic, the most affordable Nokia music phone to date, has a 3.5 mm headset jack, music player with dedicated keys, FM radio, a 2MP camera, Share on Ovi and Mail on Ovi. The 5130 XpressMusic will be on sale starting the first quarter of 2009 for a retail price of around €90 ($115). 

Nokia 7100 Supernova is the cheapest Supernova phone to date. It comes with a “large, high resolution color screen”, a 1.3 MP camera, FM radio, web browser, Share on Ovi and Mail on Ovi. 

Nokia 7100 Supernova will be available before the end of 2008, for an estimated retail price of €75 (approx. $95).

Nokia 2320 classic, Nokia 2323 classic and Nokia 2330 classic are basic handsets that look alike and offer “premium looks and practicality”. They all feature Mail on Ovi and Nokia Life Tools. Nokia 2323 classic also has FM radio with recording and Web browser, while Nokia 2330 classic comes with a photo camera too.  

Nokia 2320 classic and Nokia 2323 classic will be available in the second quarter of 2009 for a retail price of €40 each. Nokia 2330 classic will hit the market at about the same time, but for €50.  

Finally, Nokia 1202 and Nokia 1661 are two ultra-basic phones.

The 1202 is the cheapest Nokia phone ever, as it will be available, by the end of this year, for only €25. Its features include flashlight, loud ringtones, a phone book for up to five users and extended battery life. Nokia 1661 adds an FM radio and a color screen and it will be on sale starting early 2009, for €30.
