The past few weeks have been a curious couple for both Samsung and LG. Both have had phones leaked before they have been officially announced, with the majority of the features already known before the phones had seen the light of day. And now LG, hot on the heels of rivals Samsung, have put the rumours to bed with the official announcement of the LG Arena. Showcasing the all new S-Class UI, the LG Arena is a touchscreen mobile phone with more than a passing resemblance to the Samsung Tocco. But pass this off as a Tocco clone at your peril…
The LG Arena, also known as the KM900, debut’s the new 3D S-Class interface which promises to deliver a slick and innovative way to navigate the touchscreen. Think of a cross between the iPhone 3G and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 and you’re on the right tracks. At 3.0 inches and 480 x 800 pixels on show, the Arena promises to offer a screen to rival the best of the business. So it’s got a good touchscreen, certainly nothing new here. So what else should we be getting excited about?
Well, firstly, the 5.0 Megapixel camera should serve up some first class photography, though further features such as autofocus, face detection, high quality video capture or a premium lens are as yet unconfirmed. In terms of connectivity, LG have laid all their cards on the table; HSDPA mobile broadband with speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps, Wi-Fi and A-GPS should keep you well connected. What’s more, the LG Arena promises to hold its own as a multimedia phone with support for MP3, AAC, MPEG4, DivX and Xvid ensuring the Arena plays a wealth of audio video files.
“The direct and dynamic UI is unlike anything that has featured on a mobile phone before. The rich 3D graphics, touch sensitivity and dynamic multimedia capabilities, make LG ARENA a truly feature loaded multimedia phone,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. And he’s a Doctor so he can’t be wrong!
The final few features should finally come to light on the 16th of February at an LG press conference at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona. Click here to keep updated on the LG Arena and keep an eye on the Blog for further information as and when we get it.
