Apple claims iPhone is a “gaming console” and “console experience”

Apple owns the , so they can pretty much say whatever they want to say about it. They say that the is twice as fast, at half the price of the original, but we all know the truth. That it’s only barely faster most of the time, and actually more expensive in the long run.

Apple also considers the as a , and constantly tries to push the device as such, even though glaring such as its inability to multi-task and lack of copy/paste bog it down in the face of , especially those from ’s and RIM’s BlackBerry.

And just recently, at a talk held in San Jose about the platform by Apple, Director of Technology John Geleynse dropped a few serious , saying that the is a “gaming console” and claiming that it’s not just a phone, but a “console experience.”

Having experienced gaming myself, I can say that there is some to this. But the platform has a long way to go before it can be considered as a viable mobile . Aside from complaints about the lack of , Apple faces the proving the iPhone’s worth as a gaming device while updating it to provide many other features that it currently lacks.

But knowing Apple, they’ll still probably stick to their words as always, and just work to update things in the background, finally delivering in an upgraded version or follow-up model, like they always do.
