iPhone 3G acting funky? Try restoring your iPhone

It’s safe to say that Apple’s iPhone 2.0 OS firmware was one of the weekend’s highlights. With first-generation iPhone users looking to put some pep back in to their aging handset, Apple’s iPhone 2.0 OS has seen its fair share of downloads. But, all may not be well with the new fleet of iPhone 3G handsets rocking the pre-installed mobile OS.

Here’s the thing. There are reports of buggy iPhone 3G performance leading some to restore their iPhones through iTunes. Turns out, there’s a new iPhone 2.0 OS build for iPhone 3G’s, and it seems to fix some iPhone 3G bugs.
The first shipment of iPhone 3G hardware comes pre-installed with iPhone 2.0 OS build 5A345, but the new iPhone 2.0 OS build 5A347 is apparently the firmware you want to be rocking. To get your iPhone 3G up-to-date on the latest iPhone 2.0 OS firmware-build you’ll have to perform an iPhone “Restore” through iTunes. The “Restore” process is the only way to get iTunes to install the latest build (5A347) on your iPhone 3G.

Anyone noticing problems (crashing, lagging, etc.) with their new iPhone 3G might do well to bump up the firmware to the most-recent version. And, don’t forget to let us know how it goes.
