Kogan to release Android phone in Australia

Australians who are waiting for the Android phone to make its way to their country might not have to wait for 2009 to finally get their hands on one.
Kogan has just announced that they will be releasing an Android-based phone in time for Christmas. There’s still no exact name for this phone, but apparently, it will come with some iPhone-like design elements and G1 features such as a touchscreen display, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and a trackball of sorts for easy navigation. What you see above is just a mock-up, but we’re optimistic that it will look better than the first Android phone, the HTC G1. It’s expected to retail for just $199 Australian Dollars which makes it a pretty affordable device. With such bold announcements, we’re now more psyched than ever about the release of this baby.
Hopefully, as we’re reporting this bit of news, the guys at Kogan are already working on this phone since Christmas is just only a month and a half away from now. If everything goes according to plan, we might just see the 2nd Android phone be released this year beating the rest of the pack who plan to make their versions available at a later date in 2009.

Kogan, the Australian company that has electronics custom manufactured in China is going to come out with a very solid looking and featureful mobile phone named Kogan Agora Pro Mobile. We are very excited to hear that the Kogan Agora Pro has popped up in Australia as the latest Android handset and is available for international pre-order.
For $399 you will be getting a business-like Android smartphone fully equipped with a 2.5-inch resistive touchscreen, 3G data network and full QWERTY keyboard. Taking a good long look at what customers want at a price they can afford, Kogan has managed to deliver a very beautiful handset. This smartphone has GPS, 624 MHz processor, 128 MB RAM, 2-megapixel camera and Wi-Fi.
Its android so pre-installed software applications provide access to many services including GMail ™, Google Calendar ™, Google Maps ™, Google Talk ™, and a YouTube ™ video player. The integrated Google Maps™ application supports detailed map, satellite, traffic, and the new street view. The fully customizable home screen lets you put all the tools and gadgets you want at your finger tips. These handsets won’t make it in time for Christmas though, as they’re only ship from January 29th onwards

I have just upgraded my phone with a 3G SIM. I am not sure what difference it is going to make, but it was free and the woman at o2 seemed to think my life would not be complete without one.

Bell to launch HTC Touch Pro on November 14 for $399.95

Want a QWERTY-enabled device that looks cool but isn’t under the BlackBerry brand name? Well, the HTC Touch Pro is definitely one such handset that comes to mind and will be launched by Bell on November 14.
Price plans for the HTC Touch Pro are as follows: $399.95 for a 3-year plan, $499.95 for 2-years, $549.95 for a single year, and a hefty $599.95 contract-free. Not quite a practical alternative considering that Best Buy Mobile is offering the hot BlackBerry Bold at a ridiculous $199.99 on a 3-yr contract with Rogers.
If Best Buy Mobile or even Bell puts the HTC Touch Pro up for grabs at a reduced price, say around $100 off, then it might be a little bit more enticing, but for now, its price is a bit too steep to sneak it into my Christmas shopping list.
How about you guys? Is the $399.95 price good enough for you to get the HTC Touch Pro or is it a bit too pricey for you as well?
