Ericsson and 3 Scandinavia have signed a contract to upgrade the operator’s HSPA network to 21 Mbps downlink speeds. This will raise mobile broadband speeds in Scandinavia to a new level by dramatically improving quality and capacity.

The upgrade will give 3’s customers improved access to mobile broadband services, including Internet and downloading of music and video.

Excuse me, did you say 21Mbps?

Peder Ramel, CEO of 3 Scandinavia says: “We were the first to launch Turbo 3G in the Nordic region and now we are proud to be one of the first operators in the world to offer a speed of 21Mbps. Ericsson’s leading technology will help us boost competitiveness and reach our goal of bringing high-quality communications to our customers.”
21Mbps you say?

Mikael Bäckström, President of Ericsson Nordic and Baltic region, says: “With the upgrade to 21Mbps, 3 is one of the first operators to offer customers new and richer services at this speed. We are proud to contribute to 3’s great ambition to launch high-speed mobile broadband services in Scandinavia.”

Right, so let me get this straight – 21Mbps?

Ericsson will provide the enhanced speed in selected parts of the network in Sweden and Denmark. Ericsson and 3 will continue to extend network coverage and upgrade to higher mobile broadband speeds throughout 2009. The commercial launch is planned for the first half of 2009.

WOW! 21Mbps is huge! Now all I need is a device that can access it, a one-way ticket to Sweden or Denmark, and some sort of video-laden so I can use all that juicy bandwidth

More seriously though, that’s substantial speed over 3G – I’m lookin forward to something like this in the UK!

When reviewing the G1 we found a lot to like, but a lot to dislike too. We knew that some of its shortcomings, like the missing headphone jack, were sadly permanent (free adapters notwithstanding), but hoped that it would just be a matter of time before some enterprising soul (with an enterprising compiler) would take care of another complaint: the lack of multi-touch. Lo and behold now is that time and Ryan Gardner is that coder, author of a little app that proves the inability of the G1 to accept a two-finger salute is not a hardware limitation. You can see for yourself in a video after the break, and once Ryan is done cleaning up his code he pledges to post that, too (don’t forget those comments, man). Okay, so being able to cover your screen with red and yellow splotches isn’t going to convert any spoiled iPhoners, but we’re thinking the rest of you developers out there should be able to pick up this ball and run with it. So make with the running, already.

According to Telecoms Korea, the Samsung i329 will be soon launched by China Unicom on its new CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Rev.0 network. However, since China Unicom transferred its CDMA business to China Telecom, the smartphone will probably be launched by the latter carrier and not by Unicom.

Since it’s a CDMA smartphone, Samsung i329 may reach carriers outside of China – Verizon or Sprint

Remember that giant Android Robot that stood outside the Google Campus on Android Launch Day? (check out the picture here) Looks as though there has been some further HD investigating into the matter! The video above includes some close-up shots of the huge Android Robot.

I love the fact that someone actually took the time to produce this into a nice little piece. After watching it, I must admit I was surprised that Android had a little green dog at its side. Is this going to be a new feature of the Android OS? Android Dog? ‘Will fetch whatever you need!?’

Seriously though, if anyone can hook me up with the Android stuffed toy that you see at the end of the video… I’ll be your BFF.
